Our First Meeting
Our first meeting was a little bit chaotic. After Andrew missed his flight from Incheon, Korea to Manila because his plane failed to fly from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles on the 28th of December, he and I almost couldn’t see the silver lining and almost decided to cancel our plan to meet up.
However, I tried to be positive and asked him to do his best to come see me. After a day of trying to reach United’s hotline, he finally decided to try another airline. He flew from SLC to Oakland, Oakland to Los Angeles, Los Angeles to Taipei, and finally, Taipei to Bangkok.
Originally, we planned to meet in Manila first, but since we were running out of time, and Andrew wanted to celebrate the New Year in Bangkok, we decided to meet there instead. My flight was at seven in the morning, and it took me three hours and a half to get to Suvarnabhumi airport. I arrived at the airport at nine in the morning. Bangkok is an hour behind Manila time. Andrew was supposed to arrive at ten, and so I told him I was going to wait for him at the airport. His flight was delayed, and so I waited for another hour. I waited for a total of two hours, and I was so nervous the entire time. I didn’t know what to do. I was thinking it might get awkward.
At the airport…
He immediately sent me a message when his plane landed, and my nervousness got more intense. I told him to hurry up. I was hungry and sleepy at the same time, and I couldn’t wait for him any longer.
I was standing at the airport’s meeting point fidgeting, and playing with my phone when he approached me. He was smiling and I have to admit I was starstruck for a minute.
“Hey there, little one,” he said jokingly. He liked calling me “little one” no matter how many times I told him I didn’t like it.
We hugged each other tightly for a second, and decided to leave the place. I was so shy in front of him, and I felt like I wasn’t myself. The socially introverted Diana turned into a mushroom and couldn’t say anything.
